Pilkukkaaksi paikkausmaalattu pakettiauto, seiniltä hilseilevää maalia, ylivalottuneita ihmisiä alikulkutunneleissa, nuhruisia sarjakuvapilviä, ohikiitäviä rakennuksia, tasaista keskiharmaata, kuivuneita spriitusseja, osittaisella peittämisellä esiin nostettuja yksityiskohtia, kylttejä ties minne, mustekaloja, metrovaunuja, ilmeisen toimimatonta jätehuoltoa, peruskoulussa saatuja mutta vasta kymmeniä vuosia myöhemmin täyteen piirrettyjä ruutuvihkoja, vandalisoitu mustamaija, harmaa luppakorvainen koira, hiekkapuhallettujen sillanalusten graffitihaamuja, tyhjiä pintoja, maalauspohjiksi päätyneitä puhkipidettyjä vaatteita, heraldisia uudelleentulkintoja, valumia ja roiskeita, rillipäitä, katukauppiaiden kojuja yössä, autoja asuntoina ja romuvarastoina, spraysumua, huppareita, reviirin merkkausta, verkkoaitaa, erinäistä poseerausta, turistikuvia, kuvia turisteista, kuvia kuvia ottavista turisteista, irrallisia sanoja epämääräisillä kielillä.

Jos näin kerron mitä nähtävää näyttelyssä sinänsä on, kerronko mitään sen sisällöstä?

Asioita jotka olet nähnyt, mutta joita tuskin olet pysähtynyt katsomaan.

Urbaaniluontokuvaajaa esiin houkuttelevaa haaskaa. Muodollisesti:

Toista sataa yksittäistä pienempää teosta muodostamassa suurempia teosryppäitä, muodostamassa näyttelytilan kattavan kokonaisteoksen, muodostamassa yhtenäistä näyttelyiden ketjua, muodostumassa joksikin. Maalauksia, piirustuksia, valokuvia, esineitä ja joitain näiden välimuotoja. Ehkä punainen pipo.

Manuel Labor termin määritys slangisanakirjan (urban dictionary.com) mukaan:

1. A Term for all of the undocumented workers of america, doing the actual work that americans will not do any more.
2. Physical labor performed by an illegal alien.
3. A derogatory term that is used to discribe a Mexican person.

"It's time to get on with a real job. The one that does not pay the rent. The one you are never, even ironically, told to get. The one your family, friends or government would not be gently leading you towards. The one that matters.

For my fourth solo exhibition I thought I?d do something real. Plan was to go back some twenty years to when I started making these marks. Once there, to take a look around and make notes, to take a deep breath and absorb feelings, then get back to the present and just start anew. I was curious to see what crawls out of me the second time around. Maybe the approach would be to unlearn the educated part of art making in me and let the fun of just making things guide the process as it once did. Or maybe the approach would be to draw upon the so-called educated skills while quoting the imagery, energy and flavors of selected things from my youth. Or maybe to melt these into one or two or three points to be shuffled once or twice more. Or ? something.

So what did we get? An installation, a cluster of fragmented imagery, juxtaposed styles, cross-referencing paintings, drawings, photos etc. The works draw on a range of influences, as they have been made with a range of methods, to fulfill a range of intents.

A bunch of stuff about a bunch of stuff.

As the installation consists of nearly a hundred smaller parts it is easy to calculate what it approximately contains:

Musically Incorrect Fanzine #2

USO: Richard D. Anderson Album (CD-R, pHinnMilk)

It's nice that not all experimental underground coming from Finland nowadays is untalented "forest folk" shit. USO utilizes some acoustic guitars, too, but mostly it's electronic stuff. Combining elements of Beck (does anybody remember him?) at his most experimental, poor man's Aphex Twin, all other kinds of weirdness, and ironic takes on different kinds of music, this is surely different, experimental and goofy. That, however, is not really my thing. I appreciate the effort and care put into this, and there are some good moments, but as a whole this has a bit too
much of a art school vibe for me.
